On New Years Eve, the South Bank was once again lit up by the popular annual fireworks display. As in recent years the event was ticketed to help alleviate overcrowding and ensure an enjoyable experience for those present. Over 100,000 people gathered to watch the 12 minute display, which began after Big Ben struck midnight. The clock, which has been silent since August of this year, and will remain so until 2021 whilst essential maintenance work is undertaken, was set to chime on this special occasion.
