Coin Street Community Builders [CSCB] was set up to make its neighbourhood a great place in which to live, to work, and visit. Since 1984 CSCB has transformed a largely derelict 13 acre site into a thriving mixed use community by creating new co-operative homes; shops, galleries, restaurants, cafes and bars; a park and riverside walkway; sports facilities; by organising festivals and events; and by providing childcare, family support, learning, and enterprise support programmes.
CSCB is a social enterprise, a business which does not distribute profits from its commercial activities but uses them to cross subsidise activities which otherwise would not be viable. Income is generated from a variety of sources including the letting of retail and catering units, hiring of riverside event spaces, meeting room and conference venues as well as the provision of consultancy services. This income is used to fund community facilities and programmes as well as maintaining our public realm which stretches from IBM to Oxo Tower Wharf.
CSCB is a company limited by guarantee established by local residents in 1984 following a campaign against large scale office proposals. The company is controlled by a Board, elected by CSCB members. Only people living locally can become CSCB members. The Board employs staff to manage the company on a day to day basis.
