Consultation on Illegal Street Gambling Public Space Protection Order (PSPO)
Lambeth Borough Council are conducting a consultation on the extension of the current Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) targeting illegal street gambling on Westminster Bridge and in the surrounding area. The PSPO is due to expire in October 2019. The Council are hoping to extend it for a further three years.
The PSPO empowers Council Enforcement Officers and Police Officers to issue on the spot fines to those taking part in these activities. Repeat offenders can face prison sentences and / or deportation orders for persistent criminal behaviour. Enforcement of the PSPO over the last few months has significantly reduced the occurrence of street gambling and its associated obstruction of the footways, threatening behaviour and pick-pocketing.
The consultation is running until 11.00 on Sunday 1st September 2019.
